Open Question: How can I convince my parents to get me a car?
First off, I'm 19 and steer to a community college everyday. Currently, I steer a 2002 Toyota Highlander that was essentially given to me by my parents when they bought new ones. For the past few months I've been wanting to receive a Subaru WRX (2002 - 2004). I have ~$6k saved up and the Toyota is worth about 9 grand still, according to KBB. I have a part time job, but I'm only given 12 hours a week which is about $80 each week. I will make less than a grand every three months and about $3500 a year. I figure it will take forever to keep for a car on my income. I have researched the WRX a ton since I started thinking about it and the ins and outs of one.I brought the topic up to my dad a few weeks ago, but he said it wasn't my car. I understand that, but I'm the only one that drives it anywhere. When is the right time to bring this up to my folks? I'm going to the Chicago car show with my mom next Tuesday. Should I bring it up then? What should I say to them? I have social anxiety so it's difficult for me to think on the spot :/

ok soo I'm planning to receive at least a used pt with fafsa money I know it's going to take a lil while that's why I wanna receive it used I told my dad and he said those cars aren't worth it but I adore them he said the only cars with good brand are Nissan, Toyota, and Honda. He also said that I should be carefull on where I spend to buy a car because if the car is bad its going to have car problems and I'm going to spend more fixing it then I did to buy the car is this true? pt drivers is your car trouble please I need to know ;-(

hi every. I have had a Toyota 4runner sr5 1991 model for a few weeks now and it has been slipping out of first gear and it usually happens as I take my foot off the gas but it only happens when I am driving very slow say in a car park when I am driving normally it wont slip out. any ideas.

Open Question: My Neighboor said I kicked her car.?
Ok so this happened Likr 2 years ago,but Its starting to arrive back....! About 2 years ago I was with my so called" pal" We were playing baseball.Needless to say the ball hit the Toyota Highlander at like 12 mph.It cracked the winsheild.I didnt know what to do so I ran home and told my mom.(my pal did it)I would never run away if I did it.We hungout for like 3 more hours that saturday.The next day I woke up for my parents yelling outside.my mom and dad were yelling with my firneds mom and dad.I got outside and I couldint believe what I heard!!!!I kicked her car!!!!!WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I told her the real storie but she declined to hear.She gave us estimates and called the police.She said I schould be arrested!Ok so Now I got to a private school Im getting good grades,Im semi firends with him now..but look!!!!!!!!!!His mom substituted my class...she had the nerve to TELL EVERYONE about this.I could sware to God I didnt do it.and Im catholic so) I just hate myself for running away..but we moved like 2 months later and somehow shes firends with my new neighboor...and everytime i look her steer by she stares at me.Im the car kicker now...What schould I do,I want to YELL AT THAT BIT**CH* but Ive never really said a curse in my life.In person lol Internet im diffrent.Also has anyone ever been through something like this?If so please share...I kinda think im alone on this one and it would make me feel better.

Resolved Question: Is it ok to wash your car on a lawn that has a sprinkler system?
My family and I recently rented and moved into a new home that has a sprinkler system in the front lawn. My mom asked me to wash my car so without thinking I parked my car on the front lawn and began washing my car, just the way I used to at our old home (that didn't have a sprinkler system on the front lawn). When I finished, my mom walked out to look how I did and freaked out because I washed my car on the lawn. She started panicking and yelling that I'm going to break the sprinkler system. Is that true? I possess a 2003 Toyota Corolla, a fairly medium sized car.

Open Question: what would be a good starting car?
my stepdad is good with cars and recomends foreign like nissan, toyota etc. Im looking to spend between 3000-5000 for right now something that looks at least pretty decent with lower miles and runs well. I dont know much about cars and brands so ima leave that up to the fellas and ladies who know about that stuff. But im a 17 year old girl who is looking for a nice car /SUV (preferebly SUV) with a turbo engine (like the nissan juke). and has good MPG. But i need a car dealer brand thats good such as toyota, honda, Chevy. (NO FORDS, HYNDAIS) No luxury cars, i cant afford an accura, or cadillac or lexus.

Open Question: New headunit / receiver for my car?
I am getting Kicker CompVR 07DCVR122 2-Ohm 2 Subwoofers In-Vent Box subwoofers and an amp to power them, now every i need is a head unit. I have a basic 2009 toyota corolla. I was wondering if any type of head unit will work or if i need to by a specific one? Open Question: Toyota supra 2jz STOCK power limit?
hello i was wondering what a stock toyota supra turbo limits are BEFOR you have to upgrade the internals, ive heard rumors that the stock internals hold fine up to 1100hp, other have said 900, 800. i am going to be doing a RWD celica, with a supra underneath(front wheels to rear) but it WILL be a pro drift car so i want the 2jz to run at LEAST 650hp, but idk what exactly im gonna have to do, im used to racing them, not building, this is my first FULL PRO drift car build the others were basic bolt on upgrades i thought that hahah, i was looking at the 700HP kit from suprastore.com..but i think deeply im going to have to go balls to the wall and receive forged internals i know getting new cams, cranks, rods, arms, valves, ext would up my power ALOT, but qustion is, will the turbo aid my power or will the stock turbo end up costing more money and power loss than a NAE

What nice of car is more American made to you? 1. A car from American company like Chevrolet or Ford, but the car is actually built in Canada with parts made from other countries like Mexico. Therefore, most of the actual assembly and manufacturing is NOT done by Americans at every. Only the name and design is American. 2. A car from a company such as Honda or Toyota which may be Japanese companies and may be made of Japanese parts, but the cars are made and assembled in the United States by American workers. Just something you should think about when you think "Built in America"

Open Question: heand unit has power and is saying its connected but no sound?
i have a 1999 Toyota coralla and i replaced the head unit and Speakers After about 4-5 months i was driving and the sound just cuts out i replaced the head unit(below warranty) and still no sound ive checked every the fuses still no sound i dont think i blew every 4 of the speajers at once and each time i turn the car on wiht headunit it it sonds liek they connect

i fuel up gas for my mom 01 Toyota Highlander for $10. It won't goes up. and I fuel an other one for $10, total was $20. It won't go up??? It did goes up last time, this time? Open Question: how long will my '06 toyota corolla last?
Presently it has almost 95,000 miles. It's mainly every freeway miles since i commute to college and my job. I'm a regular driver and receive an oil change every 6k miles. I suppose it's due for an inspection since it's nearing 100k. Do you think it will last for a while? I REALLY can't afford another car for at least 4 more years with every the student loan debt i have.

I noticed my transmission is slipping. At first it was only when I first turned on the car then it went away after the first few seconds of driving. Now periodically when I accelerate it takes a second to to kick in to gear. Does this means it needs to be replaced? and if so how much?

Open Question: My car a/c is making noise, its not from the fan ?
it just started to have this proble, i have a toyota vienta v6,it only happens when the ac is on , the ac is still working very good, icy air still blew in as normal as nothing happenneds, even in the car with both window openned or closed i cant hear any noise coming from the a/c, however when i open the hood and cease the car i can hesr clewrly, like this is not normal i can tell, but what could it be , the ac works perfectly but only the noise when i receive out the car( cant hear the noise when driving) its like rattling noise, the AC works fine, its a constant noise so its the same when idling or accelerating, actually i cant hear the noise when sitting iniside the car, with windows up i totally only can hear the car running on the road, with windows down i only can hear when i really pay attention to but its not very noisy, however when i open the hood its very noisy and noticeable, rattling noise, i know this is not normal So it has nothing wrong with the air compressor right, because its still blowing icy air , and inside the car cant hear the noise, the noise sounds like its hitting something but i dont know what is it , i rarely use air consitioner so its cant be worm that quickly

I'm getting another car soon, and I was wondering if I should receive another Ellie or a convertible white Toyota solara? Both would be 2006. Which is safer? Which would You rather have? Resolved Question: Ride not smooth at speeds of 75 mph and above in 2007 Toyota Corolla. Why?
I just started to notice that the ride does not seem smooth at speeds of 75 mph or over. It seems the engine whines, coughs and that the car rattles. This coughing type of thing is cleared when pressing the gas pedal harder. But few minutes again this same cough seems to appear. I receive scared as if engine is going to fail or stall but it doesn't. The car has 58,000 miles on it. The car seems to bounce little bit at too. I don't recall this happening before. I cannot figure out why. Everything looks good from the exterior and everything below the hood looks good too. The tires are not that old as they have only 14,000 miles on it and they look as if installed yesterday. Tire pressure is good too. From naked eye everything looks good. But ride is shaky, bouncy, whiny and car seems to cough at 75 mph or over and it also feels as if engine is going to stall (but it never does). This is interstate driving. I heard that interstate highway driving is best for car and is easiest on car. I receive oil changed regularly. Alignment done recently too. And every service done at dealer this does not happen in city driving and low speed driving "exceeding speed limit" -- what a terribly lame answer. This is about automotive repairs. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with speed. Have you ever driven a modern car? If you are going to just say, "don't speed" and not address the mechanics of car then just skip it. By the way the speed limit itself was 75 mph.

Open Question: Urget Car question! Pedal to the floor in automatic>>>Engine popped into neutral and red lined.?
1997 toyota camry. Automatic. 130k miles. So I had literally just put a new quart of the right 5w-30 motor oil into the engine, dipstick showed it was low. Heading home, receive onto the on ramp and look a line of buses barreling down on me so i floor it. i've done it before many times and it's responded fine. Instead of shifting i THINK the engine popped into neutral and red lined for 1.5-2 seconds. i think it was neutral and not the gear but I couldn't tell because the heater was on high and so was the music. I quickly let off the gas and it went into gear. But immediately I could look lots of smoke billowing in my wake. It smelled like hot metal and burnt oil. Pulled her over and looked for anything out of the ordinary and found nothing, but i'm no expert. Turned her back on just fine and continued home. I took it easy and tried to pay attention to anything that may have seemed off. At one point, with a constant and slight pedal input, in or into second gear it did a oscillating bucking like you would buck a standard when getting into gear although a little more subtle, and it did the audible RRRRrrrrRRRrrRRRR before the gear normalized and responded fine. It did feel like 3rd gear didnt respond at the low end of pedal input but i could be wrong. Obviously I need to receive it checked out. How screwed am I and based on this prelim is the car going to need a major overhaul no matter what?Any ideas as to what is specifically not working/broken at every? Should I attempt to steer this car in the interim of taking it to the store. and keep the 'can't tell till you look a mechanic,' that's already a given with a null answer. Checked transmission fluid. Nominal levels and pink.

Resolved Question: How to install a kill switch?
I have been searching around on the web looking for how to install a kill switch in a truck. Most of the forums I have checked out give you ideas of different kill switches but not actually how to install them. I have a 1994 Toyota pickup and I want to install some sort of killswitch such as an ignition or fuel pump kill switch but I am not sure how to do it. If you could post a link of how to do it I would appreciate it. On a side note, I have also heard of people putting custom sounding alarms into their cars. The normal alarm doesn't draw much attention but something like a person screaming would. If you know of any companies that make somethingn like this let me know. Thanks

Resolved Question: Stop a towbar rattling/creaking? HELP!!!!?
I had a towbar fitted to my Toyota Rav4 about a week ago and ever since it has been making a rattling noise/creaking noise. Which is really noisy! And whenever i turn corners it makes a grinding noise. I took it back to the people once and they said it was resting on the exhaust or something and that they fixed it...but they didnt, they made it worse!! Now the car won't cease making these noises and it's really annoying!!! Someone pleade help...what could i do to cease it from doing this???

Open Question: Out of the 3 american automobile companys which builds a the best vehicle?
Gm, ford, or chrysler? For those who dont know gm makes chevy buick gmc pontiac saturn cadillac ford makes well ford mercury lincoln, chrysler makes dodge jeep chrysler and plymouth. I prefer gm i had a bad expirence with a ford, and never drove a chrysler but my dad has a dodge and its been good to him Im just curious which you think is best built compared to the foreighn competitors that have built some pretty models in the past. Chevys have treated me good iv never had a mechanical issue out of my blazer which is now at 155000 miles repairs have been fuel pump and ignition module, the door hinges are next. The ford i had blew a gasket and shortly after a piston rod. The toyota i had ran like a rat and was so dull feeling it wasnt worth my time i just didnt like it. Iv never had a european car because there so pricey to possess, although on that spectrum id have to go with a bmw :D

Open Question: Best car for college student?
In fall I will be attending the University of Arizona and I was curious to look which vehicle would be best for a college student? I am coming from my dad's 2000 jeep wrangler...horrible on gas and not practical at every (doesn't even have windows) lol. Plus insurance is ridiculous. I would prefer something affordable ($12k or less),reliable and new,inexpensive on insurance,and something economical. I had in mind either Fiat 500,Toyota Prius (2nd gen.),or smart fortwo. Which of these would be best for a college students trying to keep money on gas and offers practicality as well as reliability? Recommendations are always welcome..

Open Question: My brother and his wife drive socialist cars. Does this hurt our economy?
Two college instructors. No kids. Vegetarians. He drives a Volvo and his wife drives a Toyota Prius. These two cars are socialist cars as socialists steer them. My brother says he supports the free market (I don't know where my sister-in-law stands), but drives a socialist product. Isn't that a contradiction? My parents did not invest in my education. They believed in work. I went to public school and got sick of the indoctrination. I left at sixteen and took a GED three years later. I did one semester of community college, but found that the brainwashing was just as bad as in government schools. Also, I paid for that one semester myself. My brother worked for a college and that paid for his tuition, so he stayed on to receive a Ph.D. He met his wife there.

Open Question: Heartbroken and Devastated! Need Help Please?
Hey everyone, just wanted to share my heartbreaking story and wish I can receive something positive back I could really use it right now. I've been an emotional wreck for sometime now, every since last Thanksgiving Day. I'm 35 and had been dating this girl every last summer. We had a great time I fell deeply in adore with her and for the first time in my life felt she was the one for me I wanted to share my life with and grow old with. She had a little boy that I grew to adore as well just as if he was my possess. Anyway she didn't have a job or a car she was down on life and was living off the government. I wanted so bad to help tug her out of every that. Not to brag but I have a bit of money and am self employed. So I would buy her and her kid anything they wanted for the most part every weekend was a shopping spree for them I didn't mind at every I loved doing things for them to make them glad. But I did tell her she needed to receive a job even if it was at a grocery store would be something to receive her out of her apartment and be more active. She said she can't work because she don't have a car. Well I've been into restoring and selling classic cars for 18 years I'm always buying, selling, fixing, and trading on used cars and motorcycles or anything I can make money on. Anyway I wanted to really do something nice for her and surprise her. I had just finished restoring a 1985 chevy C-10 pickup and had it up for sell. Ended up having someone wanting to trade me a 2005 toyota camry for it. Even though we was a bit off trade value I thought what the heck. It was a little 4 cylinder automatic car very clean in great shape and I thought this would be perfect for Courtney. So I traded with the man just for that reason, I wasn't worried about making a profit or coming out ahead on this because I wasn't thinking about myself. I took the car changed the oil, gave it a good detailing, checked it over and took it to her apartment. I handed her the keys and title saying here you go baby doll it's paid for it's my gift to you to show you how much I adore you! And even gave her the money to have it registered and insured. every was good for a couple weeks until she started calling me every the time asking for gas money. I said that car gets 30 MPGs where you been going? She said just out with friends. Anyway arrive Thanksgiving Day she did not want me around not even to be calling her phone, again I was paying for. I find out from her neighbor she had been out running around with some guy for some time every since I gave her the car. When I ask about this she came clean and told me yeah I've found someone else. I feel apart and ask why baby? She explained to me how he was SOOO much better looking and how she just wasn't at every attracted to me. I ask after everything I've done for you and your son your going to do me like this? She said it is what it is you can't compete with him hes in a whole different league. I ask where dose he work? She said well hes not I've been out helping him look for a job. I said oh ok so he don't have a job?? LONG PAUSE.... I said let me guess I'm going to say he don't even have his possess car either that's why you been needing every this gas money so you could run him around in the car I gave to you? So I'm totally destroyed and heartbroken, and lost in life right now. I've not been out working, I've lost the steer to do anything, receive out there and do my car deals I do. Find fix sell trade ect ect. I've been trying to receive a engine in my Trans Am for 2 weeks I can't stay focused on what I'm heck I'm doing for my mind always thinking of her and asking myself over and over and over just what did I do wrong! I receive to emotional to work on stuff and sat alone in my home for weeks just wanting to give up. I sold a motorcycle I loved and had forever because I can't even stand to look at it anymore sitting in the garage and not think of her and the good times we had riding it last summer.She loved to ride that bike with me. I have no one I can talk to I sit in my garage every day looking at stuff that needs to be done yet can't find the strength or the steer to receive up and do it. I feel dead inside the youthful likable guy I was is gone.... I really need help just don't know where to turn....

Open Question: my parents control me and i need to move out! help!?
So here is the deal. I am 17 about to turn 18 in exactly 50 days I just got hired.. and i am a broker... I will be making approxitely 400-900 dollars a week depending how many hours a week. I am a full time student too, and graduated from high school early so that i can start my real life early, and i'm starting the nursing program in a year because many of the courses that i took in high school i can receive credit. I have goals. I am independent.I am ambitious. THe thing is, is that my parents are muslim, and many things that i do are against my religion for example, smoking pot, having sex, and having a boyfriend... many of the things that i do. When i know that i don't have ne homework, and i have studied, i party difficult. I go clubbing, i go to party, i smoke weed. However, I receive things done, and that's what my parents don't know. Even though I party 3-4 days a week, I do well in school. I dont receive pregnant. I have never had unprotected sex IN MY LIFE. I am cautious. My parents blame every of this because of my pal. Her mom lets her do every this stuff because as a child she had parents like mine. My pal is a lot more cautious, she doesnt party as difficult as i do and stuff because she could openly do every this stuff in front of her mom. But when i party i go difficult, because my paretns dont let me do Nething. They banned me form going to her home. So recently, i started sneaking out. My dad finally found out, and basically i could still sneak out but im not going to do that because i dont want to cause ne trouble. I' m just waiting for 50 days and i want to move out. I told my parents about my decison. My dad said he wouldn't pay for my college and that i would have to and if i wanted to keep my car, it would be $400 dollars a month (its a 2006 toyota corolla thats new). I dont mind paying for my college because i have enough money. And i know i can bargain the price of the car to $250 and pay for it also, and rent a room for 500 dollars. My mom says that she doesnt want me to move out. And my dads is going to cease supporting me. THhey are basically giving me an ultimatum and threatening me. But i need to move out so that i can live my possess life. I want to do well in school and party. I can balance life. But they think that i have psycoligical problems because they found out that i drink and smoke weed. Im sleepy of living here. I havent partied for 2 weeks and im gaining weight. When i partied and went to school i was glad. I know its not every about partying but i really t hink im ready to work for everything. But they are threatening me and stuff! help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a budget of about $7500 and I'm looking for either some form of a foreign sports car like a nissan or Toyota, that's rear or four wheel steer, or a heavy SUV that looks good lifted, like an excursion or a Tahoe. Open Question: Wheel corrosion causes flat tire?
The other day I went out to my car (a 2003 Toyota Highlander) and had a completely flat tire. The tire are less than a year old so I assumed I had run something over. When I brought the tire to be fixed I was told that there was nothing wrong with the tire but that there was corrosion on the wheel itself and that it probably caused the flat tire. They cleaned the wheel and reattached the tire and told me that I should look into getting a new wheel because it will probably go flat again. Has anybody heard of this happening before??? and do I really need to buy a whole new wheel??

Open Question: What's the reason for squealing sound while applying the brakes in new car?
I just heard a squealing sound (I had my window rolled down and my radio system was off) in my Toyota Corolla 2011 when I applied the brakes today. I was going downhill and I was applying the brakes to reduce the speed for a speed bump. The car is just 2 months old. Any idea what the problem could be? I'm not sure if I had the foot on my gas pedal accidentally while pressing the brakes. The car is almost new. I heard the squealing sound only once so far. How frequently should the brake pads be replaced?

Open Question: Should I trade my Corolla in for a Truck?
I currently attend College in a tiny town in Texas. A lot of roads are dirt and there is a lot of reconstruction; so I'm thinking about trading in my 2010 Toyota Corolla. I was thinking about getting a Chevy tahoe or a Ford truck. Would this be a good idea or should I just deal with my car?

Open Question: 96 Lexus ES300 - Lower Front Control Arm (passenger side) - What Bolts and Parts do I need?
I have an issue with my 96 ES300. My pal ran the vehicle up a curb and a bolt came off or something. A mechanic did a check and told me that the LOWER FRONT CONTROL ARM is "dead" and I asked how the control arm is dead and if I needed a ball joint as well, but he could not tell me more about that.... He also told me that the REAR-MOST BOLT is missing. Can anyone tell me which bolt that is? Is it a U-Bolt? Can anyone help me find a part # or something to track the part down? Also, will I need a ball joint to go along with the control arm if I want to replace it? I want to do this repair myself due to lack of funds. I have been driving this car in its unsafe state because I cannot dish out the >$800 the mechanic wanted for this repair. This question is about me getting info on my specific car model and parts. The car parts like the lower control arm themselves should be retrievable at a junkyard or whatever. Being a lexus and a luxury car means I can look into Toyota for parts if i really have to, but the Lower control arm itself costs about $50-100 for a new cheaper low quality replacement. If there is anything else that I need, please let me know. I am very new to doing my possess car repair and need every the info on the little details as possible, like # of bolts, greasing, etc.
